With the amazing, scenic views and the amount of choices available, New York is certainly a skydiving destination which should not be missed!
The AFF Program in New York
There is a new learning system known as the Accelerated Freefall Program which is partly responsible for putting New York on the skydiving map. It can be used to allow you to jump on your own or it can also be used in combination with a tandem jump.
Basically with the AFF program you are working your way up to jumping eight times. Once you do reach eight jumps it is then that you graduate and you can then jump on your own. For the first three jumps that you do however, they will be with two jumpmasters at a skydiving school and then you work your way to just one jumpmaster for the rest of the jumps. Throughout the jumps you will learn everything you need to know about jumping including safety, how to gain ground and body reference as well as how to turn once you are in flight. Things do not always run smoothly in skydiving and so it is essential to learn these skills in order for you to stay safe whilst in the sir. On your final jump you are allowed to go it alone and that way you will be able to enjoy the full freefall on your own.
If you are looking for skydiving centers which offer the AFF program, or if you simply just want to enjoy a tandem jump then you should check out the following:
• Blue Sky Ranch
• Duanesburg Skydiving Club
• Long Island Skydiving Center
• Finger Lakes Skydivers
The Blue Ranch is situated in Gardiner and it is fairly close to the Shawangunk Mountains, which will allow you to have the best views possible as you jump. It has an equipment pro shop which will give you everything that you need to take part in a successful, safe jump.
The Duanesburg Skydiving Club is situated close to Albany and even if it is a little far away from you there is lodging available and it even provides heat and air conditioning in its parking area.
The Long Island Skydiving Center is obviously situated in Long Island and it offers a spectacular view of the Atlantic coast as well as the coastline of the Hamptons.
Finally the Finger Lakes Skydivers is situated in Ovid, and it offers absolutely amazing views over the unparalleled Finger Lakes. You will jump from a distance of 10, 000 feet in the air and you will be able to see exactly why the Finger Lakes are given their name.
Overall there are skydiving centers to suit everyone in New York and they also offer amazing views over the city. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity which should certainly not be missed.
