Renting a Waterproof Camera - Pros and Cons

This article will explain the pros and cons of buying a high end camera rather than renting one. There are lots of reasons to hire rather than buy top end camera equipment including cost, convenience and future proofing yourself against technologies

In this article we will explain why hiring a camera and in particular, a waterproof camera or camcorder rather than buying the latest model is more beneficial. There are lots of reasons to hire rather than buy top end camera equipment including cost, convenience and future proofing yourself against technologies fast advancement. To start with though lets have a look at the disadvantages of buying a camera as apposed to renting one.

I bet, like most of us, at some point you have regretted making an expensive purchase because it's not quite what you wanted. Often you're not sure whether to pay the extra for those features the next model up has, do they make that much difference? By renting or hiring you could try out your top two choices and then really see which one is going to be best for you. With renting, you can try before you buy and then buy with true confidence. Because camera technology progresses so quickly, you buy a camera which is probably the latest one released onto the market and then 3 months later, it has been upgraded. Not a smart long-term purchase. High depreciation will mean that sadly your camera will lose nearly half its value in alone in one year.

Waterproof cameras tend to be very expensive, particularly the top-end units and the seriously waterproof cameras. Therefore by renting, you could defer this purchase decision. You probably own a personal camera which includes all the features you require. Most people also have smart phones these days which may well have a very good digital or video camera in them. So there is little point in purchasing a waterproof camera for just one holiday or special event is there?

If your camera is damaged due to water ingress or extreme shocks, then the repair bill will be very expensive or the camera could be written off! Specifically with water when on holiday by the beach or pool. There are pouches you can buy to waterproof your camera but they are not always great and won't protect it if you drop it. Some pouch manufacturers recommend a waterproof silicone seal around the edges of the openings. Who needs the hassle & who wants to take the risk?
There are waterprrof cameras on the market that are disposable but so far not any digital ones. Just film versions you will need to get developed. Film quality on these types of cameras is often fairly poor. They can also be very costly to develop, often with only a couple of good shots from the whole film.

There are a number of good cameras available to rent for holidays, especially underwater ones rather than forking out for one to buy. These have a multitude of uses like underwater filming which is a great experience and unique way to film your holiday adventures. You will also find a number of underwater video cameras available for hire to capture your snorkelling on holiday in high definition video.

You can now also rent a few sports cameras that are great for activities like mountain biking or sky diving. There are also a range of special purpose brackets & attachments such as the Helmet Cams which allow you to relive those adrenaline moments in true style. Also available are normal DSLR cameras to rent for special events from top manufacturers like Nikon.

A hired camera can be delivered within 24 hours to most UK destinations from a number of online stores and you can take a hired camera to any destination outside the UK which means you are free to go anywhere and take fantastic shots. You'll need to get a good memory card for your hired camera as most come with 4GB memory cards which may not be sufficient for everyones needs but these are inexpensive. You can file your photos at your leisure after your vacation using the SDHC card & your computer and you might also want to think about getting a USB card reader so you can download your photos from the camera while on holiday. This means you don't need to buy a huge memory card.

If you are interested in camera hire for a special event or holiday get in touch with Waterproof Camera Hire. Specialists in underwater camera to hire.
